The new capital construction in China has started. As mobile IoT (IoT technologies and applications based on cellular mobile networks) is an important part of new capital construction, China will speed up the construction of 5G networks and open a new chapter of the communications sector.
At the SIMCom online summit “5G accelerates economic growth, Cat. 1 helps to deploy New IoT”, we invited deputy chief engineer Shi Denian from CAICT to give us a great speech titled “5G Leads New Capital Construction”. Guided by new development philosophy, driven by technological innovation, based on information networks, geared to the needs of high-quality development, new capital construction will eventually form an information infrastructure construction system to meet the needs of integrated development of digital economy and real economy.
The construction of 5G base stations is an important part of new capital construction and the basis for the other seven sectors’ rapid development. So far, more than 150,000 5G base stations have been built and installed by China's three major carriers across the country. China Unicom and China Telecom plan to build 100,000 base stations in 47 cities in the first half of 2020 and 250,000 base stations nationwide in the first three quarters of 2020. China Mobile plans to build 300,000 5G base stations this year. By the end of Jan., China Mobile had opened 74,000 5G base stations, and the number of 5G service users had reached 6.736 million. China's 5G development is leading the world. 5G will drive the rapid growth of digital economy and applications such as the Internet of Vehicles, industrial Internet, smart medical care, 4K|8K ultra-HD videos, AR|VR and drones.
Rapid construction of 5G networks will boost investment in new capital construction. Advantages brought by the development of 5G networks have also been highlighted during the outbreak. For example, in case of major emergencies, smart urban management plans can be formulated effectively, quickly and accurately for accurate deployment and control. It can be used to effectively monitor people’s body temperature and track them, quickly locate close contacts, and implement a series of rapid responses such as traffic control. At the same time, a number of online applications, such as online health care, online education, online conferences and live streaming, which rely on communication networks, have become the most popular.
The development of 5G technology is inseparable from close cooperation between upstream and downstream players in the whole industry chain. It requires strong support from carriers, chip manufacturers, module manufacturers, industry applications and other partners in the ecosystem. As a core module manufacturer, SIMCom has been committed to module research, development and innovation since its inception in 2002. The first 5G module SIM8200EA-M2 launched in 2019 has been used in smart cities, online medical care, drones, robots and other industries. During the outbreak, together with China Mobile (Chengdu) Industrial Research Institute, we launched 5G drones for remote strategic deployment, which assisted law enforcement officers to timely warn and dissuade people going out without proper protection and efficiently finish extensive remote patrol by backstage monitoring. SIM8300G-M2, which supports MMW, will also be available in the market soon.
